How to find a Flathead?

The places fish are found are called "structures", for example, a submerged log, weed beds or rocky wall/boulder, are perfect places to find fish homes. The Flathead uses structures for ambush, for example, a Flathead digs its shovel nose into the sand and often waits in ambush near weed beds or channels that funnel the high tide water out to sea and in the process funnels baitfish from the shallow waters around mangroves etc. Fish seek these places out to school, for protection and also for ambush. (Note: Fish are active at dawn and dusk ½ to full moon phases) 

How to fish using suspending lure?

 The "Rasta" are Action Plus lures.  The "Rasta" are perfect for trolling or rapid retrieve as the lure gives of hyper action. The secondary action allows you to directly target structures the slow twitch the tip of your rod so your lure looks like a half dead baitfish but with hyper movements waiting to be eaten.

How to fish using a Darting lure?

The "Smokin Bandit" and the "Sprog" are fast shimmering tight action lures'. Which means they are perfect for you to troll or uses for rapid retrieve as the fast shimmering action gives off the appearance of a darting baitfish. This method focuses on flash and reflection and rapid movement as the Flathead perceives the lure as a fish escaping from another predator. 

How to fish using Soft Plastics?   

 You have a number of choices with Kokoda as we have a large range for flathead. I would suggest you look at the Finger Baits or Power Prawns both these lure are superb. The Finger baits work the spooked bait fish method, darting and falling in the water table. It gives of the signal come and eat me. Plus you are also likely to get by- catch of bream or other species. However the Power Prawn can be fished in a host of ways. Try the small or Medium Power Prawn, you can flutter it with slow movements like a hovering prawn in the wild or you can jerk and stop like a prawn high tailing it out of the area.
